Understanding Limousines and Party Bus Accidents

Limousines and party buses are vehicles, driven by professional chauffeurs, often hired during special events, most commonly weddings, proms, bachelor parties, sweet sixteen parties and quinceañeras or by business professionals and visitors to Southern California. Passenger carrier companies and drivers must abide by strict safety standards. Failure to do so will result in liability if an accident or injuries to passengers occur.

Special Equipment and Safety Announcement Requirements

In the fall of 2013, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a new safety requirement for limousines. Taking effect July 1, 2015, all new limousines are required to have more exits in the passenger compartment, with an extra door and push out window. It also requires limousine operators to brief passengers on safety features at the start of the trip. Existing limousines have until January 1, 2016 to conform the vehicles to the requirements of the law. This law was passed as a result of a horrific limousine accident that killed five women on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge in the San Francisco Bay Area.
